The National Wine Fair, FENAVIN, continues to consolidate its reputation as a must-attend event for wine professionals worldwilde. The experience of a Danish importer, Fini Thomsen from FiniVin, who has been attending the fair for over a decade, highlights how FENAVIN has not only transformed his business but also contributed to the diversity of Spanish wines in his country.
The impact of FENAVIN was immediate for this professional. "In just three days at the fair, I gained a much deeper understanding of the diversity and quality of Spanish wines than I had when I arrived. It was an incredible experience that marked a turning point in my career as a buyer," he explained.
The importer FiniVin fondly recalls his 2013 visit to the stand of Campos Góticos from Ribera del Duero. "I still remember my tasting notes from that time: I repeatedly wrote 'Exceptional'. It was a fantastic wine, crafted by an authentic personality who captured both my attention and trust," he remarked.
Over the years, key features of the fair, such as the Wine Gallery, have further refined the experience for attendees. "Every day, I spend one or two hours tasting and comparing wines from different regions, vintages, price points, and quality levels. This is an essential resource in my work as a buyer," he noted.
A One-of-a-Kind Event
When asked to describe what makes FENAVIN unique, his response is clear: "This event is exceptionally well-organized, with competent professionals at every level. The agenda of meetings between wineries and buyers is set before the fair begins, ensuring efficient use of time."
"Our" winegrowers that we work with are all passionate. Typically, they own small, family-run wineries, where they put all their soul and nerve into their "handmade" wines", he added. "We know them personally, and know that they are passionate about making the top quality that we believe you can taste in the wines they produce. Therefore, we focus more on the winery's overall production than on the individual wine!".
According to the importer FiniVin, "Thanks to the fair, the diversity of Spanish wines is now reflected even in the smallest towns in Denmark".
The fair has facilitated not only business relationships but also friendships. "Through my participation in FENAVIN—and with a glass of wine in hand—many friendships have been forged. This allows us to share authentic stories behind every bottle, which our customers truly appreciate," he shared.
The New Generation of Spanish Wine
The importer FiniVin also emphasizes how innovation in Spanish winemaking is conquering the world. "In the last 20 years, Spanish wine has taken a giant leap with new interpretations of the old classics, as well as the relaunch of some very old and almost forgotten grape varieties." he affirmed."The new generation of passionate and well-educated Spanish winegrowers today produces wines that can definitely be equated with their neighbors France and Italy, not least in terms of price/quality. And this does not only apply to the so-called "everyday wines", but the top wines from Spain are truly world-class", he claimed.
